The Blue Russian cat is a rare, medium-sized cat in blue-silver color. Unlike most breeds, blue russian exist from nature, without coming from cross breed. It is believed to have its roots in the Archangel of Russia, so it is sometimes called the “Archangel’s Cat”. From there it was moved to England and Northern Europe, by Elizabethan seamen in the 1860s and North America in 1890.

The Russian blue features silver-blue fur, gray nose and purple or pink feet. Her physique is quite muscular but also elegant with a long neck. Its ears are big and pointed. Her eyes can be from emerald to golden and quite rounded. Its most important feature is its double coat. Its top is short and dense and below there is one more layer that is softer.

It requires grooming at least two to three times a week to help with her hair loss, although this breed does not tend to shed her coat too much. It is generally considered to be a healthy cat without genetic problems. However, it has a tendency to easily gain weight. It is a cat that is extremely intelligent and ideal for companionship to people who have children.
